Sari began riding
at age 7, on anything she could get her hands on including Angel the donkey and
a naughty pony named Caramel. At 14, she
won the Albert E Hart Trophy, which is awarded annually to Junior Dressage
riders by the AHSA (Now USEF). She was the youngest rider to have won the award
at the time.
In her junior years she attained a ‘B’ rating from the United States Pony Club, and rode horses for Mike Sutton, George Dawson, John Slaughter and Dave Lackey. This is where Sari learned some of her most important lessons about training horses, and as she says “where I learned to think like a horse.”
When she turned 18, she began teaching dressage and hunter/jumper students at Centaur Farms in West Bloomfield, Mi. for Mike Sutton Stables.
At 22 Sari decided it was time to go out on her own. She quickly found success and had several MHJA and HJAM Championships from 1976-1985. During this time she also rode young horses and trained with George Dawson, Larry Glefke and Gabor Folteyni.
IIn 1984 she moved to Brentwood, TN. to work for Otis Brown, Jr. at Brass Lantern Farm.
In 1985 Sari accepted a position with JPR Inc. where she exclusively trained and showed young horses throughout the country. She won championships at WEF, Devon and Harrisburg, and was able to train with George Morris, Chris Kappler and Jeff Cook.
In 1994 Sari’s son Neil was born. Remarkably, just 7 weeks after his birth Sari was Reserve Champion at Devon in the Regular Working Division with Anchor Man.
In 1999 Sari moved to Kentucky, where she again worked with young horses, this time buying and selling young horses from Europe.
In 2000 Sari moved to Wellington, FL where she built 2 different farms from the ground up and continued to train and show horses.
In 2006, Sari decided it was time to return to her Michigan roots, and purchased 50% share of the current farm. She continued to show and train young horses with much success.
In 2012 after becoming sole owner of the property, Sari started organizing and managing horse shows at Woodbine Farm.
Sari currently holds a USEF ‘R’ Judges card in Hunters, Hunter Seat Equitation, and Jumpers. She judges 6-10 horse shows a year, and manages Dressage, and Hunter/Jumper shows at Woodbine Farm.
Some of the horses Sari has trained/shown to multiple championships include:
1980’s -1990’s
Ballin, Woodridge, Winsome, Nevertheless, Anchor Man, Tarragon, No Deposit, Just Arrived, Accentus, Slightly Tipsy and Hanalai Bay.
2000’s
Seven Bridges, White Caps, Breitling, Good Times, Ivory Coast and Whispering Hill.
